What Florida Does to Paint

Signs Your Paint Needs Attention

  • Swirl marks and spider-web scratches that show up in direct sun
  • Dull, chalky or faded paint, especially on the roof and hood
  • Etching from lovebugs, bird droppings or hard-water spots
  • Light scratches that catch the light but not your fingernail
  • Clear coat that is cloudy, peeling or flaking
  • An interior that needs more than a vacuum

Correction or Paint?

Paint correction removes defects that sit in the clear coat. Machine polishing levels out swirls, light scratches, oxidation and etching, and brings back gloss. It cannot fix paint that has already failed: once the clear coat is peeling or a scratch is through to primer, the panel needs paint. Tony will tell you which one you are looking at before you pay for either.

What We Do

Buffing and Paint Correction

The paint is washed and decontaminated, then machine polished to take out swirls, haze, light scratches and oxidation. How far correction can go depends on how much clear coat is left, so Tony checks that first.

Paint Work

When correction is not enough, the area needs paint. Send photos of the damage and the vehicle, and Tony will confirm what the job involves and quote it before work starts.

Detailing

Interior and exterior detailing, whether you are getting a car ready to sell, bringing back one you have neglected or finishing a restoration.

Questions We Hear A Lot

Is paint correction the same as a wax?

No. Wax or sealant sits on top of the paint and fills in fine defects for a while. Paint correction machine-polishes the clear coat to remove swirls, light scratches and oxidation, so the improvement stays after the wax wears off.

Can you fix peeling clear coat?

Not with polishing. Once the clear coat is peeling or flaking, it has failed, and that area needs paint. Tony will tell you honestly which areas can be corrected and which need paint.

How long does paint correction last?

Removed defects stay removed, but the Florida sun, lovebugs and automatic car washes will add new ones over time. Protection after correction, and careful washing, make it last much longer. Ask Tony about the options for your vehicle.

Do I bring the car to you?

Yes. Send photos first, then book a time to drop the vehicle at Tony’s workshop. Concierge pickup and return is available as a paid add-on.

What should I send to get a quote?

Year, make, model and colour, and a few daylight photos: the whole vehicle, then close-ups of the areas that bother you. Say whether you want paint work, correction, a detail or all three.
